So during the first few episodes of YAB, when I still really just wanted Shinwoo and Minam to end up together, I was reminded of how my mom, whenever watching Korean dramas, would always like that 2nd guy, saying that the main character was so mean to the girl, why would she ever like him instead of the guy who's nice to her? That was along the lines of what I said to myself in the beginning of YAB, so suddenly I could relate to her rants that I had previously completely objected. Shinwoo was so so nice to Minam, from the very beginning, always offering himself and his help whenever Minam ever needed it, and yet Minam would always turn to Taekyung whenever she needed someone instead. I figured out why, after thinking about it, and I guess that's just one more thing that I really like about YAB: there was a legitimate reason as to why she would choose Taekyung and became close to Taekyung over time, whereas in other dramas, there probably isn't. For YAB, the reason she chose Taekyung was because to her, Taekyung was the only other person who knew her secret. Although he was pretty mean to her about it, it seems only natural that given her situation, whenever she's in need she would go to Taekyung. It's for that very reason that she said she wanted to stay in Taekyung's room over anyone else's. And like Manager Ma said in the beginning, if she doesn't get as close to as many people, then there's less of a chance of them finding her out. So since Taekyung already knew, it didn't really matter if she had to hide anything or whatever. That's what I came up with in my musings over why she chose Taekyung without fail, every time.
But it got me thinking about the overarching theme in Korean dramas in general. Why is it that the main girl always ends up with a guy who's mean to her? I mean, I know that there's that whole he's nice to me and mean to everyone else thing, and the whole because he's so cold all the time, the few times when he's not are just that much more special thing but... really? I mean think about it. It's like almost every Korean drama, without fail, the main guy is always mean to the main girl. At least the romantic comedy ones. Goong, My Name is Kim Sam Soon (a bit unique but... yeah), Boys over Flowers, Full House etc. etc. Well I don't know. As I think of examples, I realize there are lots of exceptions too (Stairway to Heaven, Heaven's Tree - both sad though, Delightful Girl Choonhyang - opposite of this, Autumn's Tale) but I think for the most part the romantic comedies are usually like that. I mean, it probably is just that. The guys seem more endearing when they're cold to everyone else and that one girl can break past all of that. Thinking about it, Taekyung barely ever smiled throughout the whole drama but when he did, it was always with Minam, and it was always special.
So yeah. I get it. I mean, in every drama I've always wanted the girl to end up with the mean guy anyway, so yeah. Just thoughts.
Omg.... *____* Love this drama. I haven't watched a kdrama in so long but I was really craving to watch one all throughout my finals week. And I went on soompi and found out that this was a really popular recent drama that aired, and my roommate's friend is obsessed with it too, and the plot looked really interesting, so I thought I'd check it out. So glad I did.
It's hilarious. Omg. And sad. Jeremy is so sad T___T I crieeeedd. Well duh. I always cry. I think it's cuz he's such a happy person and then to see him like that... and then to see him get off the bus and turn around and act like everything was okay... and then to see Minam struggling to go along with it... omg T_T
And although at first I didn't really like Taekyung, he grew on me and I am soooo happy with the ending hehehehe. But omg!!!! 돼지토끼! He got "thrown away." I still haven't figured out what room that was lol but omgggggg Taekyung is amazing loll. He made that. And the hairpin. And the necklace. And alfjalfkjadf everything else :DDD Hehehehehe. I think it's just amazing that way he showed his emotions for her. Like "you get the same grade as me," and "I'll allow you to like me" LOLOL wtheckkk.
At first though I really liked Shinwoo a lot, and I thought he was the best looking, and I wanted Minam to be with him, and I was reading on the forums how people just didn't like his character and I was like wtheck. How can that be? He's so 멋있어 and everything and I still haven't figured it out. I really like his character a lot~~! I think they did a really good job of creating a believable 2nd guy. You know. One who's real and doesn't always just take shit for always being cast aside or whatever. Such a great job. Like... Shinwoo seemed real. He got mad when he was stood up. He made excuses for her about why she stood him up. I don't know. He just seemed like a real person with his full range of emotions that a normal person should have.
And I liked that Taekyung never actually liked Yoohee or whatever her name was. Like... they made it possible for Minam to get reasonably jealous but without making Taekyung actually go to her. And it's not like in the Taiwanese dramas where the drama that they create with other people is just stupid and barely touching the surface of anything, because it was all legitimate, yet at the same time it wasn't unreasonable. I also liked how they made Minam's character really... well they never screwed up like they did in BOF, where they just had the main character (what was her name??) just bouncing back and forth between Junpyo and Jihoo and never really making up her mind and just overall being a complete asshole. Minam kept her dignity and never once accepted Shinwoo even though he kept asking her, or Jeremy when he sang to her (omg) and just knew what she wanted and stuff. I don't know. I guess I just liked her character.
I thought that the way they handled the whole Minam/Minyu switch was kind of bad... like it was kind of lame that there was never really a real Minam and he was never really shown, and they were never really shown together... and honestly, how can Minyu not know what's going on with her brother when they had a childhood like that? Wouldn't they have wanted to stick together and everything?
But overall yeah I really enjoyed it. I think I mainly really really really like Minam and Taekyung together!!! OMG. Like the way he says her name: "Go Mi Nam?" LOL.<33 And her pig nose. hahaha. And omg just everything. I think they have pretty good chemistry. And Taekyung looks a lot better with his hair back. (Sometimes like TOP? Dunno. There was a resemblance) And like the movie theatre thing. I don't know. It's just everything. They had really cute scenes in there together without it being an overdose of anything. It was just that everything seemed like the right amount.
And doesn't Jeremy kind of remind you of G-Dragon in the later episodes? I don't know. And somehow Shinwoo reminded me of something, I can't really place my finger on it though. I want to see Micky from DBSK but I don't think it's that. I don't know. But he looked better in the first few episodes than he did later on. Maybe his jaw was more defined or something, I don't know.
Anyways yeah. This is my post, coming back from the dead. I am basically done with finals (except for Japanese) so I'm going to watch more. IRIS is on my list, and so is My Fair Lady, but I want to find others as well. I wish You're Beautiful had gotten higher ratings :( It's such a good drama (even though my bf thinks otherwise <_<)
I like Park Shinhye a lot... but doesn't she remind you of Yoon Eunhye at some times in this drama? Idk. Sometimes she did and then they would show certain shots or her talking in certain ways and then I would be like no way she's not like YEH at all. Haha I don't know. I liked how she actually looked pretty though when they dressed her up as a girl. Not like YEH (wtheck was that in Coffee Prince?). And how most of the guys knew from the beginning that she was a girl so the drama wasn't necessarily focused on "I hate you because you lied to us all." Jeremy's reaction was ridiculously hilarious, haha :D
Awww I really miss this drama already :((:(:(
BRING ON SEASON 2 HYD!!!!! lol omgggg I love Goo Jun Pyo. "He is my life now." UGH. TWILIGHT.
But in any case, GOO JUN PYO! Plus Ee Jung is pretty cuteeeeeee omgggg. I want Ga Eul + Ee Jung together a lot more than I ever wanted Yuuki + Sojiro. Maybe cuz they look cuter together too or something, I don't know. THEY BETTER HAVE A HAPPY ENDING.
I kind of like how things aren't all smushed together or whatever in the Korean version, whereas the Japanese one, they had to go back and rework a lot of things into the storyline when they decided to do the second season. The Korean drama is much better planned, I guess.
I think sometimes I really hate on Jan Di. Mainly because of all the time she spends with Ji Hoo and that gorgeous smile of his but I guess I just feel like she isn't really appreciating Jun Pyo enough... always thinking about some other guy or whatever -__-;;
ANYWAYS. TONIKAKU nE~ I'm going to eat dinner now. Haha.
Can't wait for next episode. I wonder how she gets duped. And why there are no longer any previews. And so that Enjoy Entertainment place ISN'T like some schoolgirl porno production? o_O;;
I'm loving all these kiss scenes between JunPyo & JanDi :D They make me happy. HE'S SO FREAKING HOT/CUTE/OMG. Does anyone notice how abnormally-for-a-Korean tan Minho is????? :D
AHHHHHHHHHH THAT'S TOO CRUEL!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe they just ended the episode like that and left us hanging for a whole week ahhhhhhhhhh I don't know what to do with myself I neeeeeeeeddd morrrrreeeeeeee T_TT_T_T_T_T__T NOOOOOOO GEUM JANDI YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!!!!! But I mean they were both crying when they kissed but I think the biggest thing is that JanDi would never let JunPyo kiss her and she would always back away but then with JiHoo, it was just like she was totally willing I guess I don't know. But you could see in her anguish afterward that she really really regretted it and felt bad about it... I mean when JiHoo came back, she didn't really act like she still liked him - it just seemed like she felt really bad because things didn't work out between JiHoon and SuhHyung and she was the one who encouraged him to go. (Seriously thouhg... SuhHyung is kinda heartless if you think about it. I don't care how much JanDi idolizes her.) AHHHH BUT NOOOOOO they can't just leave us hanging like this :( :( :( I want to know what happens next week ahhhhhh! :( I mean in the previews it looks like they made up but then again maybe not because it showed him walking away and she was still like murmuring to herself or whatever after he left and that means that it still wasn't really resolved or whatever. What I want to know is how JanDi got her anklet back... wasn't JunPyo supposed to still have it since JiHoo gave it to him?
Awwwww but JunPyo's so cute and sweet wtf why would they do that :( :( I'm so sad. This makes me really sad. Some things that were kinda OOC with JunPyo though was that he danced with that girl and then he hugged that girl when they were playing volleyball. I mean I get that Lee MinHo would probably do that but I don't really think that JunPyo would... isn't he supposed to be like... untouchable for girls? Like not really interested in girls until JanDi comes along? And I don't think that's just my impression being carried over from HYD either because he's acted like that in BOF too, so yeah. It's not really a big deal though, I guess.
AHHHHHHHHHHH I just can't believe it ended like that (yes, I can, they're Korean. Of course they're going to torture us like this). Awww but I really like JanDi and JiHoo's friendship now, if that counts for anything. Or maybe that's just because JiHoo sort of likes her now? I don't know. I thought that the part where they were drawing JunPyo was the absolute saddest :( The whole fortune teller thing was kind of confusing - did that really happen or was it just a dream? I thought it was just a dream but then GaEul somehow knew about it too in the end... ugh and what does that even mean? I totally don't agree! Nan shido! JiHoo's sweet but JunPyo's JanDi's soulmate AND future husband through and through >:[
P.S. Despite my distress about how this episode turned out, the best part of this episode was when GaEul and YiJung were talking about soulmates (:
Well yes, I am still alive.
I found this drama when I was lonely in my dorm room on Wednesday night after everyone had left. It was almost like a luck kind of thing, but I'm really glad that I did find it, and I'm surprised that it didn't get higher TV ratings than it actually did (always around 10% or less). This drama was very cute - the acting was good, I was totally in love with JungJoo even though he was totally not the guy who NanHee was supposed to end up with. Transitions in the relationship between NanHee & HyungTae were a little abrupt, but overall it was good, the acting was good, the plot was good. I liked how it wasn't just the same as every other kdrama that you watch (although, of course, it had similarities). It wasn't just like boy and girl meet, girl falls in love with guy while guy is in love with another girl, girl and guy get together, other girl starts to like guy, love triangle ensues. It was a bit different from that, starting from the fact that HyungTae & NanHee were best friends from the very beginning, so there was no period of guy is really mean to girl but girl falls in love with him anyways. They always had such a great friendship. The other unique thing was that HyungTae started to show signs of liking NanHee first. And when SungAh came back from Spain, it wasn't like HyungTae immediately dropped everything either and just ran straight to her.
So yeah. In some ways, it was kind of refreshing, the kind of drama that I needed in order to create a segway back into my Korean drama phase (not sure how good that will be though, what with me taking 19 credits next quarter). People around me now never really knew me when I was in that phase back then, so maybe it's a little weird for them to see me slipping into this Korean-obsessed state, but what can a girl do?
Anyways, I would really recommend this drama, to anyone. It's cute, light-hearted to the extent that Korean dramas are capable of being lighthearted, the acting is good, the supporting actors are good too (even despite SungAh's manly voice -_-;;), and there were some unique characteristics.
A few things that bothered me were: 1) JunMo just seemed to be thrown in there for the sake of being there. He was soooooo cutee yeah but I don't really feel like he added much to the story. Even when he went to talk to HyungTae in episode 15, it wasn't even really clear what good that did or what they said or whatever. Although his part was sad, because he "liked" NanHee but could clearly see the whole thing between NanHee and HyungTae, it didn't even really seem like he liked her that much, but that it was more of a convenience kind of thing. 2) We never found out who was sending those flowers, or why they stopped. 3) I still don't really get the whole title thing. 4) I love & miss JungJoo :(
Michelle wants to watch Fantasy Couple but that might have to wait until next quarter because basically from here on out it's just studying for finals, which she and I both really need to do. My attention right now, for winter break of course, is on 18 vs. 29 though... has anyone heard about this? Yay or nay?
Um, hello, where are Blair's brains? She's trying to get back in a circle of bitches who just completely dropped her. That fucking lead girl is after her ex-boyfriend. AND they took in Jenny. So why the hell is she crawling back to them?
Also, it was pretty obvious that the culprit wasn't Chuck. Who's G though? An ex-boyfriend? I keep thinking of that guy who ran away from home and was apart of that whole life before, and who cheated Nathan. I don't like Nathan. I don't really think he's that hot. I don't know. His face looks too skinny or his nose is too skinny or something. And his hairstyle is kind of lame. I don't know. He just doesn't do it for me.
So yeah. Blair's stupid, Serena's being pretty stupid, Jenny is a total bitch who doesn't learn her lesson, those girls are stupid for accepting Jenny back into their circle, Nathan is ugly and stupid, and... I like Chuck :) Haha.
Gossip Girl is back so I guess I am too. I'm kind of pissed though, cuz they moved the time to when I'm still in French class, and now I really do have to download the episodes online. Annoying...
Anyone have any Asian drama recommendations? Korean or Japanese preferably, and romance, 勿論.
Wow VOX kind of changed - looks cool :)
Anywayysss... I think it had to be ZhiShu who ultimately went to get XiangQin. Any other way and I would have been annoyed. I mean, I see where he's coming from and yeah, he kind of does have a valid point that she should do something with her future, but 1) I don't really see a problem with XiangQin just being a housewife because I think that she would be really good at that, minus the cooking part, cuz she's so compassionate, and in Taiwan, that's a perfectly acceptable thing for a girl to do, and 2) She shouldn't just give up like that, and perhaps she does have potential to be something better, but I still don't think that he should have blown up at her like that, and I don't think the build up to his anger was very smoothly done either. I think he should have comforted her, because I mean hi. She was just told that she failed and couldn't graduate. I'd be pretty upset too, and ZhiShu only poured salt onto the open wound. She definitely had a right to get pissed too.
I LOVE YUSHU. I LOVEEEEE HIMM OMGGGG MARRY ME AHAHAHAH<3333 He's so adorable :) Someone really needs to get on top of this subbing business. They either take a century to just release one episode, or the timings off, or the quality's bad. Really though, any youtube/overstream/streamed online thing will be bad. Actually, veoh and that Chinese website aren't bad quality! I would take up the job but I can only understand like 85-90% of it, and I realized that in order to sub you have to understand all of it.
THIS IS HILARIOUS!!! AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH I LOVE YUAN XIANG QIN DE BABA!!!! "You can call me Handsome Cai. Arigatou!" HAHAHHAHA. I'm dying!!! Also, Ah Jin is for once scared LOL. He's so obsessed with XiangQin still though. And it's so weird to see this different perspective of him. XiangQin's hilarious though. She's in total disbelief that someone thinks Ah Jin can be perfect hahaha.
Her and Zhi Shu are soooo cute too <3 Zhi Shu could tell that she's jealous :) I think it's kind of funny how they make Joe use his real name in the drama. I don't know I mean I don't think his english is very good :p It's always weird hearing him talk, because he talks without any tone like he just memorized it but doesn't really know what he's saying. It's okay though. I still love Zhi Shu :)
I am also applauding myself for being able to understand more of this episode, and all of what the foreigner, Christine, says (in both Chinese and English. LOL) so I'm going to try and watch the rest of the episode by myself :) Ohhh I love Zhi Shu :)
I absolutely cannot wait for Gossip Girl tomorrow night either though :D
Oh I'm sorry Jenny, did you not want an answer to your question? Because B's about to give you it.
I hope Blair and Serena kick ass. Blair's really not that bad. She's not a slut, she's not an emotionless bitch. She just has issues, like every single other person in the world. Maybe I feel this way because I actually read the books, so I came into this biased, but really. Even Nate didn't have the right to flip out like that. He did the exact same thing. Oh wait. Did I say he did the same thing? Because he didn't. He actually cheated on Blair, Blair slept with Chuck when she and Nate were broken up. So no, I don't believe he had the fucking right to throw her out of his life like that. What if it was his baby? As far as he's concerned, Blair's still pregnant. Was that the kind of father he was planning on being?
Chuck? Chuck did what he did best - he was a complete asshole. However, even though he was an asshole, I think he was justified in this. And I think he still does have feelings for Blair, he just doesn't want Nate's sloppy seconds. Chuck's Chuck. He's used to being the best. He doesn't want to be Blair's last resort, accepted only because he's the only option she has. It makes sense. I would say he shouldn't have ruined her life like that, and in some ways, I still kind of believe it. I mean, Blair used him and dropped him like a hat once Nate came back around. However, it was no different from what Chuck did to countless girls before Blair. The only difference was that Chuck actually knew Blair going into it. He was an asshole to try and blackmail Blair with it, to keep her from getting back with Nate. But he was also prepared to take responsibility after Serena told him that Blair might be pregnant.
On the other hand, Blair treated Jenny like complete shit. For example, she shouldn't have totally cut Jenny off just because Jenny told her the truth about what Nate said at the party. But then again I understand Blair's reasoning behind for doing so - she was embarrassed, and with a girl like Jenny knowing about her personal life and wreck of a relationship, she felt the need to do so. I'm not justifying it, but just saying that's Blair. That's how she deals with things. But I always thought Jenny was annoying. A wanna-be. A tag along. A pain in the freaking rear end. I saw it in this episode though. She's slowly changed, transformed, to the point where she no longer looks like the lowly freshman from Brooklyn who doesn't fit in. I know she's different, and she's seeing it, and it'll probably change back, but I would still choose Blair over Jenny any day. I don't know; I'm not expressing this correctly.
This is a total side note, but that girl who told Blair off? Where the hell did she come from? She was never in any of the episodes from before. Lol, she's totally random, and definitely going to pay for it. She accuses Blair of being a bitch, but she's just like a mini Blair, except worse.
So I hope that S and B raise hell and show who's boss. Let's do it. I'm trying to look for the preview that comes after this episode because I missed it, so I had to download it, but the downloaded version doesn't have the preview, and it's not released yet on their website...
Liar Game! i actually just finished this series, and i loved Shouta in it as well. There's room for improvement,... read more
